A better start
into adult life
De Care supports local youth so they can have a better start in adulthood. This is a chance for these children, and we celebrate each of their successes.
This is how the idea of ​​helping the town of Sihanoukville, located on the southwest coast of Cambodia, was born. Over 100 children live in the slums there. They live in shacks without running water or sanitation, and their only possessions are the clothes they wear. Their only chance of escaping the poverty trap is outside help.
Why help
is needed?
Cambodia is not only one of the poorest countries in the world. It also grapples with other problems. Villages are littered with landmines, resulting in a very high rate of amputees. The country is riddled with corruption, human trafficking, and the government's lack of respect for human rights. Forty percent of Cambodian children are also chronically malnourished.
To support children and give them a chance for a better future, the Goodwill Center was established. Thanks to financial support, in which we actively participate, it has been providing assistance for 10 years. The center organizes school activities, enables students to take exams, helps them navigate the education system, and even successfully apply for college. The Goodwill Center also launched an all-day nursery so that older children no longer have to care for their younger siblings and can devote more time to their studies. During the summer holidays, children attend extracurricular activities, while older children and adults can take advantage of afternoon English and computer classes.
Goodwill Center Activities
focuses mainly on:

  • promoting health and hygiene rules,
  • developing basic social skills and self-discipline through joint activities and team games,
  • teaching the native Khmer language, English, writing, numeracy and computer skills,
  • providing essential health care,
  • teaching useful things such as growing plants,
  • providing school uniforms, shoes, pens, pencils and exercise books to school,
  • providing a space for art, crafts, creative play and music.

A few successes
Goodwill Center:
Emmie started attending afternoon English and computer classes, as well as conversation, interview, and CV writing courses, in 2009. She studied for three years and managed to secure a place at Build Bright University to study Tourism. To pay her fees, she worked as a receptionist at an English school and is currently working part-time as a tour guide. She is in her second year of university and is achieving excellent results.

A little girl was scalded by boiling rice soup. She received immediate medical attention at a private clinic. She stayed in the intensive care unit for four days. The center covered the costs of her treatment and subsequent recovery. This help saved her life!
Titya joined the center when he was 10. He attended school regularly, and after graduating, he took afternoon English and computer classes for four years. His education helped him greatly. He began working part-time as an English teacher and used the money he earned to support his family. He currently continues working and is training to become an electrician.
